Recently in South Africa, a man boldly declared that Yeshua would return on Yom Teruah. Many believed him. Some went so far as to sell their belongings, quit their jobs, and radically change their lives because they trusted his words. When the appointed day came and went, nothing happened. The aftermath was devastating: families left in financial ruin, believers shaken in their faith, and communities mocked by outsiders.
Scripture warned us this would happen. Deuteronomy 18:20–22 makes it clear:
“But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My Name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other mighty ones, even that prophet shall die… When the prophet speaks in the Name of YHWH and the word does not come to pass, that is the word YHWH has not spoken.”
Why this is dangerous
- False hope becomes shattered faith. When the prophecy failed, many who trusted it felt abandoned and disillusioned.
- Material loss brings despair. People who gave away their possessions and left jobs are now suffering unnecessary hardship.
- Mockery against the Body of Messiah grows. Outsiders see the collapse and use it as ammunition to ridicule all believers.
- Distraction from true preparation. Instead of living faithfully, people were focused on an illusion.
Yeshua Himself said, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the messengers of the heavens, but My Father only” (Matt. 24:36). No one has the authority to set the day. When someone does, they are placing themselves above the Word of Elohim.
What must we do?
- Stop following proven liars. Once their words fail, they have shown themselves false.
- Do not excuse them. Scripture doesn’t say, “give them another chance”—it says do not fear them.
- Protect the sheep. Leaders must warn and guard the flock against voices that lead to destruction.
- Call for repentance. Both from the prophet who lied and from those who ran after him.
This was not just a mistake. It was rebellion against YHWH’s Word with devastating consequences for many.
The true Bride does not sell her inheritance for the lies of men. She makes herself ready by walking in obedience, holiness, and covenant faithfulness—trusting that Yeshua will return at the Father’s appointed time.
